Jamila Mahfudh is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who loves providing an environment where tweens, teens, young adults, and the young at heart can be their authentic selves in therapy and use their passions and interests to create positive change in their lives. Some of her identities include being Black, Latina, Middle Eastern, and a geek and gamer. Practicing in San Diego, California, and offering therapy in-person and via teletherapy, Jamila’s private practice supports individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, PTSD, Complex PTSD, anger management issues, and substance use and misuse. She has a knack for helping those who feel misunderstood, people who are highly sensitive, those who have a hard time opening up to helping professionals and has a focus in working with Neurodivergent populations including Autistic and ADHDer individuals.
Jamila works from a trauma-informed, strength-based lens, utilizing Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to walk alongside the person on their way to their vision of a happier, hopeful, and successful life. In addition, she has trained in the somatic, brain, and body modalities of EMDR and Brainspotting, allowing people to engage in therapy that goes beyond talk therapy to bring about lasting change.
Jamila has a passion for joining each person’s unique world, learning about who a person really is inside, and bringing about their strengths and resilience to overcome life’s toughest challenges. With this comes the idea that everyone has the capacity for change, and she would love to support her clients in leveling up aspects of themselves to get past the barriers that are holding them back. Jamila believes that sometimes all that is needed is a little guidance, perspective, practice, understanding, and support to move forward and reach one’s full potential. Jamila has worked in school, outpatient substance use recovery, and residential settings with teens, adults, and their families.
