Gender Affirming Surgery Letters

“We are not what other people say we are. We are who we know ourselves to be. And we are what we love. That’s okay.”

Gender Affirming Surgery Letters

Some of our therapists on staff have been trained to provide gender-affirming talk therapy and letters affirming surgery and other treatments for transition. They utilize HIPAA-compliant video conferencing talk-therapy treatment with adults and youth who are trans and nonbinary. After a full assessment, they provide gender-affirming surgery letters for individuals 16 and older.

If seeking a therapist that takes your insurance or additional treatment services, please check out Our Team to learn more about therapists on staff. Our clinicians charge differently for individual and assessment sessions.

The total cost of services for individuals seeking only an assessment and accompanying letter will depend on the individual clinician. There is only one assessment session, as further sessions are unnecessary gatekeeping. The session price is not affected by whether a letter is written or not (it is the same in either case). The cases where no letter is written occur not because a client did not meet the criteria (it is pivotal that the mental health community understand that anyone seeking these services already qualifies). Those occurred when:

  1. Their insurance refused to reimburse for the cost of services or gender-affirming treatments. Therefore it is highly encouraged that clients do their due diligence to learn what their benefits plan will cover.

  2. The client reported that they are not financially or emotionally prepared to engage in services. This is a determination the client makes on their own after assessing the cost or level of support after treatment.

Our clinicians will work with you to amend or adapt the letter if the letter itself is denied by the insurance company for purposes of language adaptation. This will come at no additional cost.

Please be aware that all costs may vary, and a co-pay may be obtained, depending on each individual’s insurance coverage and the clinician they choose to work with. These fees do not reflect a clinician’s individual fees, which could include but are not limited to legal involvement, additional professional services, or late cancellation/no-show policy. To learn about these, contact the clinician you are interested in working with directly. Also, clients can be offered an invoice for all sessions rendered (if they request additional treatment) if they have out-of-network benefits and would like to submit a superbill to their insurance company. Please note that a superbill is only offered to clients with out-of-network benefits or PPO (not HMO or EPO) and that there is no guarantee of full reimbursement by the insurance company for services rendered.
